2017 Row by Row Experience

June 21, 2017 through September 5, 2017

Kits now available!

Oregon ducks are always “on the go.” But not all Oregon ducks are green and yellow! They are unique and come in all kinds of colors. And our ducks are seldom all “in a row."  This year's design is compatible with the gray background rows of our previous years.  And our row can easily be positioned vertically as well as horizontal.  We have kits available for 2017 and a limited supply of 2016 rows.  All our rows are on display, come see them in person!

Stay tuned for the 2018 Experience

Nicki K. of Cottage Grove
Our customer Nicki brought in this lovely Row by Row quilt that contains many cool designs from her journey to Iowa and Missouri, along with the Piece by Piece Fabrics row of course!

What is Row by Row?

The Row by Row Experience is a new kind of shop hop that began in 2011.  In all 50 States and Canada, too!

It's like a shop hop, but it's not... no fees, no cards to stamp, and all summer to play! Simply visit any of the participating shops and receive a free pattern for a row in a quilt. Combine your rows in any way to create a unique quilt that represents the fun you had traveling throughout the summer. Travel with friends, discover new quilt shops and have fun collecting rows.

Create a quilt using at least 8 different 2017 rows from 8 different 2017 participating RxR shops and be the first to bring it into a participating shop to win a stack of 25 fat quarters (6-1/4 yards of fabric!). Use that shop’s row in your quilt and win a bonus prize! Click here for more details. Note: you may use The 9th Row patterns, row from previous years and even Row by Row Junior patterns in your quilt, but none of these may be counted as any of the eight needed to win a prize.

We have a few 2016 kits.  Each package contains the fabric needed to construct one row design and contains the patterns for both rows.

2016 Row - Our Northwest Home

2016 Row - A Modern Forest

Last year's theme for the Row by Row Experience was "Home Sweet Home."  Piece by Piece Fabrics has two rows in our 2016 pattern and kits, one that is machine pieced, and one that is appliquéd.  The white triangles represent the majestic peaks in our northwest corner of the country.  Our home is not just Eugene or Oregon, but is broader.  And ultimately, our home is made of many places and people.

Our appliquéd row has the tree shapes of a modern forest, something we are lucky to enjoy in Lane County, Oregon.  It too is made up of many different colors and trees in all shapes and sizes.
Our appliquéd sample is stitched and embroidered with pearl cotton and both rows are hand quilted with pearl cotton.  If  you are interested in our kits, they contain all the fabric you need to make just one of the rows.  It will also contain a card stock template page for the trees, a color cover with photos of our rows, and the pattern for both row designs.  The two rows are also very compatible with our Row of Rain from 2015 and this year's Flock of Ducks.

And, the collectible license plates continue to be a big hit.  We have a limited supply of last year's version, Gone to Pieces.  Come in and get yours soon!

Row by Row Frequently Asked Questions

I'm a quilter, how can I participate in the Row by Row Experience?

It's easy! Simply visit any participating 2017 Row by Row quilt shop during the summer and ask for their free pattern for a row in a quilt. The 2017 theme is Row by Row On the Go, and each shop is working with the theme in their row. The shops are happy to give you the pattern at no cost, limit one per person, walk-in customers only.

The shops are all over the U. S. and into Canada. How can I get the row patterns from quilt shops that are far away from me?
You can't. The shops are offering the pattern only to customers who walk in the door. Please don't ask them to email or mail their row patterns.

Can I make copies of the patterns I collect?
Absolutely not!! That's a big no-no! The patterns are copyright property of the designers.

So, is this a shop hop?
Kinda. But there are no fees and no cards to stamp.

Are there prizes? Can I win something?
Yes! With the Row by Row Experience you win a prize for sewing! Complete a quilt using at least 8 different rows from 8 different 2017 participating shops. Be the first to bring it into a shop and you win a stash of 25 fat quarters. (That's 6-1/4 yards of fabric!) Win a bonus prize for using that store's row in your quilt.

What do you consider "complete" when it comes to my quilt.
Quilted, bound, labeled.

What pattern do I use for my quilt?
You decide. Stack your rows, arrange around a center medallion, make them horizontal, vertical, upside down, on the front, on the back, whatever! You are the designer. Be creative and have fun, but be sure to use 8 different 2017 rows from 8 different 2017 Row by Row shops.

Can I win in more than one shop?
Sorry, Charlie. One prize per quilter. You can make several quilts and show them off in several shops, but you may only claim one prize. Your quilt will be photographed for Facebook and everyone will see it, so play fair!

How do I know which shops are participating?
Check the website: www.rowbyrowexperience.com. Click the state you are traveling in to see the listing of shops. A Google map and a downloadable list will be available before summer.

Are all of the shops open for the same hours?
No. It would be too difficult to organize this for the whole summer. Be sure to check the shops' websites or call ahead when planning your route to verify their hours.

Can I see pictures of the rows?
Yes! Each area has a Facebook page and the shops will post photos of their rows when they are ready to show. You can "like" your area's page and any you plan to visit, but you don't have to be a member of Facebook to see the photos. The Facebook page links are on the website.

What are the exact dates of the event?
You have from June 21 through September 5, 2017 to collect the free patterns. You have until October 31, 2017 to submit a quilt for a prize.

Anything else I should know?
Lots! Each shop is participating in the Row by Row Experience in their own way. You will be able to buy kits for the rows you love and see demos for new quilting products when you visit many of the shops. Many others are carrying the FabricPlates from Zebra Patterns and the coordinating Row by Row On the Go fabrics.
